Congressman John Olver today formally endorsed attorney Kevin J. Sullivan in the September 6th Democratic primary for the 8th District Governor’s Council seat, an unusual step in a contested primary, one that reflects the broad support for Kevin’s candidacy. The seat on the Council is currently held by Tom Merrigan, who has also endorsed Kevin.
In expressing his support for Kevin Sullivan, Congressman Olver said, “Kevin is the candidate with the experience and integrity to ensure that Western Massachusetts is properly represented on the Governor’s Council. Kevin shares the values that I have spent my political lifetime advancing at the state and national levels. I know from his solid professional and family background that he will be a strong voice for Western Mass on the Council.”
The Congressman is part of a growing list of endorsers who are making their choice clear in this primary. Kevin’s supporters include: District Attorneys Mark Mastroianni and David Sullivan; Sheriffs Mike Ashe, Tom Bowler, and Chris Donelan; Registers of Probate John Merrigan and Tom Moriarty; State Senators Ben Downing, Gale Candaras, and Stan Rosenberg; State Representatives Sean Curran, Peter Kocot, Stephen Kulik, Paul Mark, Smitty Pignatelli, John Scibak, and Ellen Story; Mayors Dick Alcombright of North Adams and David Narkewicz of Northampton; and former Berkshire Brigades Chair Lee Harrison.
From Kevin: “I am honored to have the endorsement of Congressman Olver and such an illustrious group of public servants, and I appreciate their willingness to support my candidacy in the Democratic primary. I intend to earn those endorsements by working even harder to reach all the voters of the 8th District, to ask for their votes in the Democratic Primary on Thursday, September 6.”
Kevin has over two decades’ experience practicing in the Western Massachusetts courts. He is committed to supporting highly qualified western Massachusetts candidates for positions in the local courts.
Kevin’s understanding of the importance of local issues and local people comes from being a lifelong resident of Western Massachusetts. Married for 21 years, Kevin is the father of two public school students, which has benefited him in his role as Vice Chair of the Westfield School Committee.
